Empty Pool Styled Shoot featured in Tidewater and Tulle

When Kristi Midgette and Liz of the Village Beach Club approached me about their vision for a styled shoot in an empty pool, my eyes lit up! We used this unique venue to show off a different vibe of Outer Banks styled shoots, sharing elements other than the usual beachy colorful mix. Our shoot was featured on the Tidewater and Tulle blog, which you can view here!

We decided on a mixed media vibe with various paper, acrylic and fabric materials, combined with the dramatic + modern editorial style makeup, and flowy dress. We held this shoot in the drained pool of the Village Beach Club, an oceanfront Nags Head venue. To get the moody and more editorial look, I hand dyed the tulle skirt the bride was wearing and hand painted the grooms shirt. I also made a giant 11 foot banner to hang from the pool as the ceremony backdrop, but as the weather would have it, the crazy Outer Banks wind decided to rip it in pieces- All well! We used it in a different way and it still worked (see below!) Amaranth + Artifact provided rentals for the shoot, while Shelley at Honeysuckle made some amazing flowers with a moody color palette.

We love the Outer Banks where we all live and work, and draw lots of inspiration from the scenery, venues and colors around us. The beachy vibe is easy to draw as inspiration from, but we switched it up and did something modern and unique for bridal inspiration outside of the traditional scene.
